Psykiatrin Södra can be described in many ways

• Slightly more than 600 persons with various types of education who are to offer psychiatric care to the population in six of Stockholm’s southern districts: with Enskede, Farsta, Gamla Stan, Hammarby, Hornstull, Katarina, Maria, Skarpnäck, Sofia, Söderled, Vantör as well as Årsta with a total of approximately 275,000 inhabitants.

• An organisation within Stockholm County Council in which the emphasis in all treatment work is on outpatient services.

• An endeavour to meet people with mental problems with respect, on their home ground, in their own context.

• An organisation that starts out from the view that recovery from severe mental disorders is possible.

Under the leadership of Chief Consultant Filipe Costa, Psykiatrin Södra is developing an organisation the primary aim of which is to support people with mental disorders, in acute situations and in their subsequent recovery. Our organisation is constructed so as to facilitate contact between the consumers (patients, their families and friends) staff within psychiatry and other caregivers (social services, primary health care, social insurance office etc.)

In our everyday work we strive to apply psychiatry’s “holy principles”; continuity, accessibility and overall view. Our work proceeds from the latest knowledge within the field of psychiatry and is based on certain important assumptions about mental suffering and what can be done to alleviate it.
